Elan Varshay was born in Israel where he started his artistic career as a painter. At a young age he was enticed by the brilliant diverse culture of Europe, and he spent years traveling and immersing himself in its artistic heritage. He was particularly enamored by the architectural reliefs that embellished the cities and enriched the experience of its inhabitants. Varshay has always been inspired by the ways that artistic invention elevates our human experience, making our cultural existence more abundant. He made an early decision that he wanted the contribution of his life’s work to advance the vitality of the social interface.

Varshay decided to go to New York where he started working with a large jewelry manufacturer as a computer analyst. Unfilled by the abstraction of digital work, he sought out hands on technical training in bench work to learn the fundamentals of jewelry making. Hungry for new experience and exposure, he went to work in the world of couture fashion, creating seasonal accessory lines for Valentino and Donna Karan. This experience helped tune Varshay’s responsiveness to the market and his ability to quickly enhance and support trends. Working in high fashion in the 80s, there was demand for bold statement pieces, which gave him an opportunity to explore sculptural elements in his work.

In 1993 Varshay moved to Santa Fe and was invited to work with James Reid to develop a line of belt buckles which would break away from the Western mode and reach a smart contemporary market. This partnership gave him an opportunity to learn new technical mechanics of design and production, and the confidence to literally forge a new niche in the fashion world. With his top-down experience in the business and drive for development, Varshay decided to launch his own business. He built up his own line of buckles which he expanded until he was bought out, freeing up once again to direct his energies towards new pursuits.

Still eager for exposure to new technical knowledge, Varshay went to work for the hardware development sector of a multi-billion dollar corporation, where he was head of design. Gaining experience working with industry leading corporations, Varshay is versed in state-of-the-art technologies and processes, and has accumulated a repertoire of skills and technical proficiency necessary to fully realize his individual artistic vision.

Varshay now devotes his energy to creating a world-class jewelry collection with limited runs and the finest materials. He caters to a clientele who is worldly, sophisticated and seeks pieces with a unique “spark” that complements and enhances their own style. Infusing classical and contemporary elegance into his designs, Varshay is always searching for the ideal balance of subtlety and distinction, to achieve an enduring splendor.
